LC1 Armchair

Le Corbusier, Perriand & Jeanneret - 1928

The LC1 armchair, also known as Basculant, is undoubtedly one of the icons of modern design, with a timeless character and still very current. It was the first furniture design that Le Corbusier carried out jointly with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, in 1928.

It is a reinterpretation of the English “Officers Chair”, used by English officers as a folding campaign chair. It is characterized by its straight lines and its tilting backrest, which provides comfort and convenience.

The structure is made of chromed and polished tubular steel, the seat and backrest in leather with fur and the armrests in black leather.

These two original copies are signed and numbered (E333 and E359) and are part of an early edition of the Cassina firm from the mid-1960s.

Dimensions: Total Height: 65 cm, Seat Height: 35 cm, Width: 59 cm, Depth: 63 cm
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The frame and chrome are in very good condition and the leather shows some wear and a small tear on one of the seats.

The same rationality and functionality and the absence of unnecessarily ornate grandiloquence that Le Corbusier applied to his architectural work, as well as a renewed look at the habitat, transferred it to the creation of furniture, designed in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand in the famous studies of the Rue de Sèvres in Paris.
