In 1958 Montserrat Tayà and Montserrat Tord founded Gres in Barcelona, one of the pioneer stores in the city in selling modern design products.
Although in its beginnings Gres only distributed products from different manufacturers such as Polinax or Tramo, at the beginning of the sixties it also began to produce some pieces under its own brand. This is how some of the leading designers of the time began to collaborate with Gres. Miguel Milá, who later became a partner in the firm, Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá, Elisabet Tayà and Jordi Tió, among others.
Located on the ground floor of a building designed by José Antonio Coderch, it was the benchmark for Barcelona's progressive bourgeoisie, also called Gauche Divine, who were the main buyers of this type of furniture and lighting.
