Grupo Austral
The Grupo Austral was a group of architects made up of Antonio Bonet, Jorge Ferrari Hardoy and Juan Kurchan, among others, who had a great influence on the panorama of Latin American architecture and design from the 1930s, both through their works and designs as well as their publications.
Founded in September 1938 in Buenos Aires, its statutes were conceived on the basis of those of GATCPAC (the Catalan branch of GATEPAC, Group of Spanish Architects and Technicians for the Progress of Contemporary Architecture).
The Grupo Austral was part of an innovative trend that sought to implement the ideas of modernity, based on utopian architectural projects capable of generating social change.
