Jordi Vilanova i Bosch

The figure of Jordi Vilanova i Bosch (1925-1998) as a pioneering industrial and interior designer in Spain has been revalued in recent years. 

Co-founder of the multidisciplinary artistic group La Cantonada, of which the ceramist Jordi Aguadé, the architect Jordi Bonet, the jeweler Aureli Bisba and the painter Joan Vilagrau were also members, he developed his particular vision of design, marked by a humanist and avant-garde character and characterized by its functionality and simplicity.

A style inspired by Scandinavian design, which takes advantage of the practical and current sense and respects the quality of execution and materials, but trying to develop a truly Mediterranean concept that takes into account the tradition of local craftsmanship of wood, iron, textiles, glass and ceramics.

The modernity of his designs lies not only in the shapes and materials, some of which are still very much in force, but also in the desire to adapt the spaces to the rapid changes of contemporary life, thus participating in different spheres of society, which involved the creation of series of furniture with markedly different aesthetics: functional modular systems, religious-inspired furniture and liturgical objects with austere lines, children's furniture with rounded edges and volumes, white wood furniture with stylized lines, etc.
