Manila Cane Chairs mod. 203
Joaquim Belsa Aldea / Aresta - 1962
The Catalan industrial designer Joaquim Belsa Aldea (1929-2018) had throughout his career an interest in designing and producing simple and austere furniture intended for a broad audience. In his designs, he used traditional and durable materials such as natural wood, manila cane, rush, or textiles.
The chair mod. 203 designed in 1962 is made entirely of manila cane and represents a clear intention to recover and update the popular Mediterranean chair, perfectly synthesizing its author's ideals of simplicity and modernity.
