BKF Chairs

In 1938, the Austral Group, composed of Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, among others, designed this original and iconic chair.

Based on a simple design concept and made with great economy of means, the BKF, also called “Butterfly” because of its butterfly shape with open wings, proposes a new way of sitting—or rather, multiple ways of sitting. This is its main contribution to the world of chairs. 

A large butterfly-shaped piece of natural leather is suspended from a lightweight structure of interwoven iron rods, painted black and finished with rubber caps.

The BKF became an icon of the 1950s and has been one of the most copied designs in history.
