BKF Chair
Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan & Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy - C. 1938
In 1938 the Grupo Austral made up of Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, among others, designed this original and iconic chair.
Starting from a simple design concept and carried out with great economy of means, the BKF, also called “Butterfly”, due to its butterfly shape with open wings, proposes a new way of sitting, or rather, multiple ways of sitting . This is his main contribution to the world of the chair.
A large piece of natural leather in the shape of a butterfly is suspended from a light structure of criss-cross iron rod painted in black and finished with rubber ferrules.
The BKF became an icon of the 1950s and has been one of the most copied designs in history.
