Barceloneta Armchair

Federico Correa & Alfonso Milá - C. 1950

The chair Barceloneta (1953) by Correa y Milá was one of his first and most emblematic designs. Designed to furnish a house in Coderch, it was conceived as a special tribute to the chair Barcelona by Mies van der Rohe, but in a popular and affordable key.

At the end of the fifties they modified the original design, obtaining as a result the chair Barceloneta with arms, a singular version of which the publisher is unknown.

The structure, in natural varnished beech, is made up of three pieces that converge in a triangle forming the rear legs, the seat support and the backrest support and reinforced by a curved metal bar for ergonomic reasons and which in turn performs the function of a handle.

The arms are composed of a leather band and metal fasteners, the back is canvas removable cover and the green suede seat fixed with circular-head metal nails.

Its shapes and materials perfectly show the integration between design and craftsmanship so characteristic of its authors. A clear example of the union between tradition and modernity.
