Red and Blue Chair
Gerrit Rietveld - 1918
The Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld designed this chair in 1918 inspired by the colors used by the artist Mondrian. Rietveld entered the De Stijl movement early in his career and was a prominent member of the Modern Movement.
The red and blue chair is undoubtedly an icon of furniture design. At first the chair was made of wood, a material he knew in depth since his father was a cabinetmaker.
It is a masterpiece in which the play between horizontal and vertical lines overlaps instead of using them together.
A design with a marked modern and timeless character.
