Pair of Antoni de Moragas Chairs
Antoni de Moragas i Gallissà - 1954
In 1954 the architect Antoni de Moragas i Gallissà designed a set of furniture, of which this chair forms part, for the "Pro dignification of the Popular Home" contest organized by the FAD and the National Housing Institute.
Throughout his career, Moragas was committed to the idea of developing architecture and design at the service of people. The design of this chair is a clear example of this, as it takes into account that the shape of the product must be functional as well as dignifying and pleasing.
As in other designs by the author, it is a piece where the materials are mixed - iron tube for the structure and molded wood for the seat and backrest - and where both the structure and the construction systems are visible.
An exemplary and modern design characterized by formal simplicity and constructive rigor.

Moragas tried to apply rationalist postulates to his designs and implement a more industrialized production at a time of evident duality between modernity and tradition.
