Set of Four Green Selene Chairs
Vico Magistretti / Artemide - 1969
Set of four stackable Selene chairs, designed by Vico Magistretti for the Italian company Artemide in 1969.
Made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester resin and finished in green, they feature a monocoque structure with “S”-shaped legs designed to give the material rigidity with minimal thickness.
In this design, Magistretti solved one of the era’s major technical challenges: molding a lightweight, stackable, durable chair from a single piece of plastic. The Selene quickly became a landmark of Italian industrial production and is part of the permanent collection of museums such as MoMA in New York.
