Torres Clavé Armchair
Josep Torres Clavé / Mobles 114 - c. 1980
In 1934, architect Josep Torres Clavé designed the GATCPAC or Torres Clavé armchair as part of the furniture for the Spanish Republic Pavilion designed by Josep Lluís Sert at the 1937 International Exhibition in Paris, where works such as Pablo Picasso's Guernica and others by Alexander Calder and Joan Miró were also exhibited.
The design is inspired by traditional Ibizan chairs of popular origin, which Torres Clavé reinterpreted from a rationalist perspective. These pieces are part of the first editions by the Catalan publisher Mobles 114, made of cherry wood and woven esparto grass.
An armchair that, due to its functional and aesthetic qualities and its unique history, has become an icon of Spanish modern design.

Esta butaca formó parte del equipamiento mobiliario del patio-auditorio del pabellón de la República de París de 1937, diseñado por Josep Lluís Sert, donde compartió espacio con el Guernica de Pablo Picasso, la Font de Mercuri de Alexander Calder y otras obras notables de Joan Miró y Alberto Sánchez.
