This pair of chairs attributed to the Swedish architect and urban planner Sven Markelius in the 1930s are part of the extensive universe of cantilever chairs designed by great names of the rationalist movement at the beginning of the century, such as Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Mies Van der Rohe.

Appeared in the context of the international rationalist movement, cantilever chairs have marked a milestone in the history of design for the use of new materials and construction systems and for their evident modernity.

This model is made of chrome-plated tubular steel and black-dyed canvas.

Markelius was one of the founders of the International Congress of Modern Architecture in 1928 and in 1931 he collaborated in the writing of Acceptera, the manifesto of the Swedish functionalists. It marks an epoch in the history of Swedish architecture, incorporating functionalist aspects under the influence of Le Corbusier's thought.
