This pair of chairs attributed to the Swedish architect and urban planner Sven Markelius in the 1930s are part of the extensive universe of cantilever chairs designed by great names of the rationalist movement at the beginning of the century, such as Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Mies Van der Rohe.

Markelius was one of the founders of the International Congress of Modern Architecture in 1928 and in 1931 he collaborated in the writing of Acceptera, the manifesto of the Swedish functionalists. It marks an epoch in the history of Swedish architecture, incorporating functionalist aspects under the influence of Le Corbusier's thought.
