Pair of Safari Chairs
Kaare Klint / Rud. Rasmussen - 1933
Pair of Safari armchairs, designed by Kaare Klint in 1933 for the firm Rud. Rasmussen.
Inspired by the campaign chairs used by British officers in Africa during the 19th century, the Danish architect redefined this portable model, turning it into a benchmark of modern Scandinavian design. Klint eliminated the superfluous and retained a lightweight wooden frame assembled without the need for fixed tools, combined with suspended natural leather seats and backs that are tensioned using adjustable straps. This piece stands out for its functionality and honest use of fine materials, establishing the foundations of functionalist design in Denmark.
