Markelius was one of the founders of the International Congress of Modern Architecture in 1928 and in 1931 he collaborated in the writing of Acceptera, the manifesto of the Swedish functionalists. It marks an epoch in the history of Swedish architecture, incorporating functionalist aspects under the influence of Le Corbusier's thought.
